Seismic Logging Systems, Data Acquisition, Quality Control, Processing and Communications

Baker Atlas Downhole Seismic Services (DSS) offers a complete range of purpose-built dedicated seismic logging systems. From a fully integrated system with borehole seismic capabilities, within the openhole ECLIPS™ logging unit – to a stand-alone borehole seismic data acquisition system, to portable PC-based system – the DSS systems allow for quick deployment and remote operations.

All DSS seismic logging systems are efficient and reliable data acquisition systems for all borehole seismic applications. These systems allow for detailed quality control of all aspects of the service, including downhole data integrity, surface and downhole instrumentation tests, source monitoring and navigation information to ensure data quality.

The seismic logging systems have the flexibility to record digital and analog downhole receivers and surface channels. And also an interface with 3D surface seismic systems allowing for simultaneous surface and downhole data acquisition.

Real-time QC displays permit the field engineer to monitor energy source firing, raw data recording, tool depth and cable tension. Borehole seismic data field processing is performed using a wide range of processing capabilities at the well site. Data transmission from location to office or to our processing and interpretation centers is also possible by traditional dial-up, wireless and satellite communication methods.

Integrated Tasman Navigation System

The Downhole Seismic Services (DSS) Tasman navigation system meets or exceed all specifications for land and marine VSP positioning accuracy, QC and reporting. Using multiple Differential Global Positioning Systems (DGPS), from local reference stations to satellite-conveyed corrections, accurate navigation positioning can be performed anywhere in the world. Custom software packages, running on a PC platform, control and log all position data, provide real-time QC displays and manage telemetry between the source and the recording unit from the simplest surveys to the most complex 3D.

The DSS purpose-built Tasman navigation system provides highly accurate, repeatable, shotpoint positioning in any pattern. An extended interface protocol between DSS Tasman navigation and the seismic acquisition system ensures accurate and comprehensive recording of all survey parameters and positioning data.

Energy Source Controllers

Baker Atlas DSS seismic logging systems interface with all vibrator electronics, airgun and explosives controllers. Our proprietary airgun controller provides a major advance in VSP airgun synchronization. It is capable of controlling up to 16 airguns at each eight-source location, using micro-embedded PC controls to automatically tune large airgun arrays and record individual gun-timing, sensor signals, near- and far-field hydrophones, gun pressure and depth information.
