Salt Proximity, Salt and Sub-Salt Imaging Surveys

Service: Zero-Offset VSP, Far-Offset VSP, Walkaway VSP, 3D VSP

Salt proximity surveys measure seismic energy propagating through and reflected from salt structures. Data is used to map complex salt surfaces in areas where surface seismic data yield ambiguous results or are unavailable.

Due to the complex 3D structure of salt bodies, traditional 2D salt proximity methods are inadequate in mapping these structures accurately. Baker Atlas’ proprietary 3-C, 3D Salt Proximity interactive software utilizes the full wavefield particle motion with 3D models to accurately position the salt-sediment interface point in 3D space.

Benefits and Applications
  • Define 3D Salt-Sediment Interface using 3-C, 3D refraction method
  • Define 3D Salt-Sediment Interface using Reflection Imaging
  • Ability to undershoot salt overhangs where conventional surface seismic geometry is limited
  • Constrain Surface Seismic Velocity Model with known salt structure
    Extract 2D salt flank profiles
  • Sub-salt Imaging, map reflections beneath salt base, which are not illuminated by surface seismic
